Reflections Of A Floating World

Torben Giehlers Malerei verwandelt unsere virtuelle Realität in komplexe, vielschichtige Bildwelten.

eng:

Torben Giehler's painting transforms our virtual reality into complex, multi-layered visual worlds.

Layer by layer, he applies acrylic paint, at times delicately translucent, at others solid and opaque.

Razor-sharp vector geometries and pulsating planes of color unfold on the canvas, appearing to float

almost weightlessly in front of and behind one another in space. They inevitably evoke associations

with digital interfaces, glowing smartphone displays, and endless streams of data.

With his works, Giehler raises one of the most pressing questions of our time: where exactly does

the boundary between our actual reality and the virtual matrix blur? His painting operates precisely

at this fragile interface. The constant dynamics of screens and digital networks serve him not as a

mere image to be depicted, but resonate throughout the painting process as a conceptual

background noise. Out of this friction of ideas, his multi-layered pictorial spaces emerge.

Despite all these strong digital references, Giehler's work remains thoroughly analog painting: the

physical presence of the canvas, the palpable application of paint, the raw tactility of the surfaces,

and the irregularities of the paint bring the artist's hand unmistakably into focus. Against the flawless

smoothness of virtual screens, the tangible work on the wall confidently asserts its own vibrant

vitality.

If the digital matrix lures us ever deeper into its worlds, can Giehler's painting bring us back to

experience reality again?
